On The Road // West for the Weekend!

AUGUST 30, 2019
My friends Hanna and Alex are getting married this weekend at Devil’s Tower National Monument, and my boyfriend and I are headed out on a road trip. Tonight we are crashing in Sioux Falls, SD. Tomorrow we’re going to visit Badlands National Park and then make our way to Gillette, WY.

Falls Park, Sioux Falls, SD

Today, so far, we visited Falls Park and had dinner at a delicious Mediterranean place called Sanaa’s. It was incredible! Falls Park was gorgeous. There was an observation tower that we went up and could see all of the park. Falls Park is the only thing I really knew about Sioux Falls so it was exciting to finally visit. If you’re ever in Sioux Falls, check out Falls Park and have a tasty meal at Sanaa’s.

We stayed at a cozy AirBnb on the north side of town. At first we put the address into the GPS wrong and ended up at the wrong house. That was a bit of an adventure, you know, traipsing through a stranger’s back yard, wondering how to get in… to the wrong house. Once we figured out that we may have been trespassing, we checked the address again and eventually ended up at the correct house. It was really spacious but still cozy! Our host, Lori, provided plenty of snacks, and even had a candy dish, which we raided.

Tonight we’re meeting up with some of my boyfriend’s friends at Remedy, a brewery with some hella good beer. Or so I’m told! I’ll give my slightly extended opinion in a later post.

Remedy had some amazing beer!! I had never been there before, clearly, but boy does my man know good beer! I got to meet a few of his friends from his time in Sioux Falls, and this morning we met up for a delicious breakfast with two of his friends that I have quite come to adore.

Badlands today was incredible. I had been there before, but it was just as amazing the second time. We visited all the overlooks that my dad and I stopped at in 2014. I even handed over my camera for a little bit and taught my boyfriend a thing or two about photography, and he actually took some really solid shots!

As for right now, we made it to Gillette. It was a long day in the car, but we really enjoyed the drive. Tomorrow is the wedding and we have a few things to do tomorrow morning beforehand.

Devil’s Tower, Devil’s Tower National Monument

SEPTEMBER 1, 2019
We missed most of the wedding because there was an enormous line to get into Devil’s Tower. But we got there for the end of the vows and the kiss. I got to catch up with some good friends during the reception, and we met some new people. Since we had a longish drive back to Gillette (its about an hour) we took off around 8:30 or 9:00. It was an awesome day!

SEPTEMBER 2, 2019
We got back super late tonight. I guess it wasn’t that late but we did drive from Gillette, WY to Ames, IA. Today, we got to see Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills. Again, I had seen them before but they were just as beautiful the second time around. We decided we needed to take a motorcycle trip out through that area.

Stay tuned for the trip report where I will go in depth about all the highlights of our trip!
